With a little luck you will get and keep silky smooth feet

During the summer months we like to wear sandals, or go bare feet. Our feet have taken us from A to B all our lives, so it makes sense that our feet need the necessary care every now and then. We often forget this and only do it once a year just before the summer begins and when the slippers and sandals are pulled out of the closet. Are you about to get your feet summer ready? Then this is the best way to make your feet silky smooth and to get rid of calluses.

How does a callus develop on your feet?

To have silky smooth feet, it is good to know exactly how calluses occur. A callus is actually a localized thickening of the stratum corneum of the skin. The stratum corneum is the top layer of skin containing dead skin cells of the epidermis. Everyone has a thin layer of callus on their hands and feet, and there is nothing wrong with that. But do you have a thicker callus? If so, this can eventually cause pain. Calluses occur when underlying skin protects itself when there is friction or pressure. This protection results from an accumulation of new and dying skin cells, which we know as the callus layer on the skin.

Wearing the wrong shoes

A major cause of friction and pressure on the skin is wearing the wrong shoes. For example, shoes that are too big or have a hard or thin sole can cause calluses on your feet quite quickly. Slippers, where you slide your heels along the edges, also increase the risk of calluses. Prevention is always better than a cure, so make sure you wear good footwear, and then start to get rid of calluses on your feet.

What you need

You don’t have to buy a large assortment of foot care products. You probably already have what you need at home! Take a look in your kitchen and refrigerator and bring out the following: a liter of milk and baking soda. Yes, that’s all!

This is what you do

Warm up the milk a little, but also make sure that it does not get too hot. The milk should be at a comfortable temperature for your feet. Put the warm milk in a large container and let your feet soak for a quarter of an hour. The acid in the milk makes it easier for the dead skin cells that cause calluses to come off.

After soaking your feet in the milk, the skin on your feet will be soft. Now, with your feet still damp, take some soda and massage your feet with it. In this way you “scrub” your feet, as it were. After exfoliating the skin, let the soda sit for another ten minutes. Then you can rinse and dry your feet. Do this about twice a week and you will have wonderfully soft feet.
